This exhibition reconstructs the life of the famous Mexican artist through some 100 images, most of them originals, taken by various photographers including Leo Matiz, Guillermo Kahlo (the artist’s father), Gisèle Freund and Lucienne Bloch.
Undeniably, Kahlo was much more than an artist. She was an art history legend that became an icon for women and international pop culture. Looking at her life, beyond her paintings, viewers are drawn to her life experiences, her love affairs, her passions, and her pride in being an indomitable woman who battled her illnesses, her weaknesses and her lovers with the very same energy.
One of the exhibition halls presents a multimedia environment where the artist’s paintings are projected into the space, coming to life and enveloping the visitors in an experience set to music. The images of Kahlo’s paintings open a door for visitors, who are immersed in the vivid colours, flora and fauna that inhabited the artist’s life, as well as her personal belongings and the traditional clothes and accessories that she always wore to honour her origins.
